Smartlead and Instantly solve a similar problem: running cold email outreach across multiple inboxes without paying per mailbox. On the surface they look very close. The differences become much clearer once you look at contact limits, sending volume, deliverability tools and what happens when you scale.
Quick Answer
Smartlead is usually easier to scale when contact storage and agency infrastructure matter. Instantly is attractive if you want a simpler outreach workflow, strong lead-data tools and your active contact count stays within its plan limits. Both include unlimited connected email accounts and warmup on their main paid outreach plans.
The right choice depends less on the headline price and more on how many contacts you keep active, how many emails you send and whether you need private infrastructure, client workspaces or separate lead-data tools.

The First Pricing Difference Is Small
For a small setup, price alone probably should not decide this comparison. Smartlead Base starts at $39 per month with 2,000 contacts and 6,000 sends. Instantly Growth starts at $47 with 1,000 uploaded contacts and 5,000 monthly emails.
That is only an $8 difference. At this stage, workflow matters more: which interface you prefer, which integrations you need and whether you want lead sourcing inside the same ecosystem.

Where the Pricing Starts to Separate
The comparison gets more interesting around 20,000 to 30,000 active contacts.
Smartlead Pro is $94 per month and supports 30,000 contacts with up to 90,000 monthly sends. Instantly Hypergrowth is $97 per month with 25,000 uploaded contacts and up to 125,000 monthly emails.
If you mainly care about send volume, Instantly gives you more sends at roughly the same price. If contact storage matters more, Smartlead gives you a slightly larger contact allowance.
One important Instantly detail is easy to miss: the uploaded-contact limit is a fixed account limit across campaigns, not a fresh monthly allowance. Old contacts still count until they are removed. That can matter if you test many lists and keep historical campaigns in the workspace.
What Happens After 25,000 Contacts?
This is where the products take noticeably different paths.
Smartlead’s Unlimited Smart plan is $174 per month and removes the contact-storage cap while allowing up to 150,000 monthly sends. Instantly’s next major published tier is Light Speed at $358 per month with 100,000 uploaded contacts and 500,000 monthly sends.
Instantly also lets Hypergrowth and Light Speed users buy capacity add-ons. A current add-on costs $87 per month and adds 25,000 uploaded contacts plus 125,000 monthly sends.
So do not compare $174 with $358 in isolation. Light Speed includes far more sending capacity and additional infrastructure. But if your problem is simply that you need to store more than 25,000 contacts without jumping to half a million sends, Smartlead’s unlimited-contact tier can be a cleaner step.
Warmup and Deliverability
Both platforms treat deliverability as a core part of the product rather than an optional extra.
Smartlead uses different warmup pools by plan, moving from Foundation to Growth and Premium tiers. It also sells SmartDelivery for inbox-placement testing and SmartServers for dedicated infrastructure.
Instantly includes unlimited warmup on its paid Outreach plans and adds deliverability scoring, reputation protection and bounce detection. Light Speed adds SISR, its server and IP sharding and rotation layer for higher-volume sending.
The practical difference is not that one platform has warmup and the other does not. Both do. The question is how much control and infrastructure you need around the sending itself.
Lead Data: Built In, but Priced Differently
Smartlead now includes verified prospect-email capacity in its plan structure, with larger allowances on the higher tiers. Unlimited Smart and Prime include significant verified-prospect allocations.
Instantly separates much of its lead-data and AI usage into Instantly Credits. Those credits power products such as SuperSearch, enrichment, verification and AI agents.
This makes the monthly software bill less obvious than comparing only Outreach plan prices. If you already source leads elsewhere, the separate lead-data subscription may not matter. If you want one system for prospecting and outreach, include those credits in your comparison.
Which Is Better for Agencies?
Both products are built to handle many inboxes, but their agency economics differ.
Smartlead offers client workspaces, white-label options and private infrastructure as you move up the plans. Its Unlimited Prime tier includes three client workspaces and private infrastructure.
Instantly offers agency-oriented workspace features on higher plans and keeps unlimited connected email accounts across its paid Outreach tiers. It also sells CRM, lead credits, done-for-you setup and pre-warmed accounts separately.
If your agency mainly needs many inboxes and simple campaign management, either can work. If separate client workspaces and white-label operations are central to the business, compare those costs specifically instead of choosing from the headline subscription price.
A Simple Cost Example
Imagine you need to manage about 30,000 contacts and send around 80,000 emails per month.
Smartlead Pro is already sized close to that workload: 30,000 contacts and 90,000 sends for $94 per month.
Instantly Hypergrowth costs $97 and gives you more send volume, but its 25,000 uploaded-contact cap is below the requirement. You would either need to actively remove contacts or add more capacity.
Change the scenario to 20,000 contacts and 120,000 sends, and Instantly Hypergrowth suddenly looks much more comfortable. That is why the better platform changes with the workload.
Smartlead vs Instantly: Which Fits Your Setup?
- Choose Smartlead when: contact storage, client workspaces, verified prospect capacity or scaling into private infrastructure matter more to you.
- Choose Instantly when: you want a straightforward outreach workflow, higher send capacity around the $97 tier, and like having SuperSearch, CRM and AI tools available as separate products.
- Either can fit when: you are running a small setup with a few thousand contacts and simply want unlimited connected inboxes plus warmup.
I would not migrate between the two just to save a few dollars at the entry level. The more useful comparison is the plan you will need six months from now once your contact storage and monthly send volume are larger.
